SMART SHADE

This exterior shading system is conceived as an R+D study to adapt automatically to changes in daylight and temperature without using mechanical energy, electricity or human effort. Two types of metal with different thermal expansion properties are laminated together to form louvers. Fixed on one end, they bend upward or downward, depending on whether it is cold or hot outside. Developed 2003-2004, it predates more recent projects exploring the aesthetic potential of bimetals.
