FULLER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY CHAPEL, Pasadena, CA

Project Director / Design Team Leader with William McDonough + Partners

The first version of a concept for a 30,000-sf multidisciplinary worship and art center for the largest seminary in North America. With the adjacent library addition, the chapel creates a new gateway to the historic pedestrian mall in the heart of the campus. The architecture responds to various materials, styles, and scales on campus and nearby, including the landmark City Hall. Resource conservation inspires spiritual contemplation: the prayer garden fountain serves as an evaporative cooling tower for the HVAC system, MEP condensation that otherwise would be treated as waste feeds the baptismal font, etc.
